With big plans to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, Veterans Hospital Deer Lodge Centre and the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation lunched into 2020 excited about what was to come. And then COVID-19 hit. Plans for an in-person gala and ceremony to mark the occasion were put on hold and the organization was forced to pivot.

We were tasked with coming up with a solution to raise much-needed funds for Veteran and dementia care at Deer Lodge Centre, and to honour the Veterans who gave us so much. The “A Thousand Thank Yous” campaign was born. The premise, asking 1,000 members of the public to give $75 each (one for ever year of freedom after the end of the war) was launched with thundering success. Print ads, digital display ads, an aggressive social media campaign, and an earned media push resulted in new donations, new donors, and a whole bunch of smiles.
